Description

1859-S 50C Medium S, WB-102, Die Pair 6, R.3, MS62 NGC. A few glimpses of golden-brown toning appear at the rims, but essentially the coin is brilliant-white throughout the fields and devices. A full strike shows no weakness on any of the stars or Liberty's portrait. The eagle's plumage is razor-sharp. Bright mint luster covers both sides, which display only a few shallow marks and wispy lines that define the grade. A scarce coin in Mint State, as are all Seated halves from the 1840s through the 1860s. Census: 4 in 62, 25 finer (7/18).
Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 6/2015), lot 4524, which realized $1,880.
