Description

1872 Two Cent Piece, PR66 Red
Glowing Orange-Red Surfaces

1872 2C PR66 Red PCGS. CAC. The 1872 two cent piece is a classic case of the reason why proofs are so sought after. Only 65,000 pieces were struck for circulation, making that issue all-but-unobtainable for most collectors, especially in high grades. This availability vacuum has traditionally been filled by proofs, of which 950 pieces were produced. This piece has bright, glowing orange-red surfaces with no mellowing, just a few small specks of carbon scattered about. Population: 15 in 66 Red, 1 finer. CAC: 5 in 66, 0 finer (7/19).(Registry values: N2998)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2752, PCGS# 3650, Greysheet# 2754)
