Description

1877-CC Twenty, AU58
Popular Carson City Type Three Issue

1877-CC $20 AU58 NGC. Variety 3-A. Rusty Goe notes in The Confident Carson City Coin Collector, "By all accounts, the demand for 1877-CC double eagles in AU-58 condition currently outpaces the supply." If prices realized are a meaningful measure, auction appearances clearly confirm that assessment. High-end circulated examples regularly exceed estimates. This near-Mint coin combines a low number of surface abrasions with a high amount of eye appeal. Sharply struck, the partially reflective surfaces retain most of the original mint luster, with no distracting marks and only a faint hint of wear. Gleaming yellow-gold surfaces display a pale, orange-gold hue at the borders and a rim-to-rim sharp strike. NGC reports just 29 numerically finer examples, plus one coin in 58+ (8/21).(Registry values: N1793)
