Description

The Greatest Sierra Leone Rarity

British Colony silver Proof Dollar 1791 PR64 NGC, FT1A, KM7. From the collector: "A proof in silver, excessively rare, only five pieces struck.  A classic provenance, ex Dr. A.N. Brushfield, H.M. Lingford and R. J. Ford collections." The succinctness of the collector's comments perhaps undersells just how special this piece is. One of the most coveted proof crowns ever produced, this is the first time one has been sold publicly in at least a decade, missing from both the Diana and Arielle Collections. To provide some basis for formulating an estimate, Heritage sold a PR63 100 Cents, of which there were supposedly 40 pieces struck, for $10,000 hammer in August, 2014 (Heritage 3033, lot 23389). This piece is not just technically higher grade, but also from a significantly lower mintage (5 pieces as opposed to 40). With that in mind, it is extremely difficult to place any sort of number on this coin, but we fully expect that a new record price for a Sierra Leone coin will be set with this coin. It is sure to be one of the highlights of whatever collection it ends up in.
