Description

1853-O WB-101 Half Dollar, MS61

1853-O 50C Arrows and Rays, WB-101 MS61 PCGS. This one-year type was made in large quantities following adjustments to the amount of silver in each piece that occurred in 1853. Prior to passage of the Act of February 21, 1853, half dollars contained more than 50 cents in silver. Once adjusted, it was cost effective to produce these coins. This pleasing Mint State example exhibits a shattered obverse die and a perfect reverse die. Both sides are sharply defined and highly lustrous with delicate gold toning. Population: 2 in 61, 27 finer (11/17).(Registry values: N2998)
