Description

British Colony silver Proof 20 Cents 1791 PR63 NGC, FT4A, KM4. 2 blades of grass. From the collector: "A proof in silver of the variety with 2 blades of grass under the S of SIERRA.  Mintage of 84 specimens." Struck for Boulton's customers between 1793 and 1799. Very rare. The Arielle Collection had two examples (Baldwin's 87, lots 3245 and 3246), both of which sold for 2,100 GBP ($3,375 at the time). Neither of those were graded, unfortunately, making a comparison to the present piece difficult; nonetheless, to at least provide a little further guidance for the bidder, it should be noted that Heritage sold a PR58 example in April, 2015 (Heritage 3040, lot 30577) for $1,300 hammer. The coin on offer here has lovely original surfaces and ample amounts of steel blue toning.

Metal: Silver
