Description
1891-CC Double Eagle, AU55
Rare CAC-Approved Example
1891-CC $20 AU55 PCGS. CAC. Variety 1-A. Ex: Rian's Bequest.
The 1891-CC boasts one of the lowest mintages in the Carson City
double eagle series (just 5,000 coins), and it ranks among the most
elusive dates overall. In The Confident Carson City Coin
Collector, Rusty Goe estimates the survivorship of this issue
at 5.5 to 6.5 percent of the mintage -- a significant percentage
for Carson City double eagles, but one that results in a limited
number of pieces known due to the small figure of that original
mintage. This Choice AU example is exceptional for the grade,
yielding soft, satiny yellow-gold luster and sharp design elements.
No major abrasions are seen. One of just a half dozen coins in this
grade with CAC endorsement. Population: 30 in 55, 55 finer. CAC: 6
in 55, 17 finer (11/21).From The Rian's Bequest Collection. (Registry values: N2998)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26C3, PCGS# 9017, Greysheet# 9949)
Weight: 33.44 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
