Description
1845-D Quarter Eagle, AU50
Pleasing Collector-Grade Example
1845-D $2 1/2 AU50 NGC. Winter 6-J. The 1845-D is scarce in
high grade despite a substantial mintage for the Dahlonega Mint of
19,460 pieces. Doug Winter estimates the survivorship at 275 to 325
pieces in all grades, with barely more than 100 pieces in correctly
graded AU and Mint State levels. The current AU coin displays
mellow peach-gold patina with subtle luster in the fields. Light
wear on each side is noted, but most of the weakness on the hair
curls around Liberty's brow and on the eagle's neck is due to an
incomplete strike -- typical for the issue.(Registry values: P2)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25GX, PCGS# 7738, Greysheet# 8349)
