Unusually Well Struck

1845-D $2 1/2 AU55 PCGS. Winter 6-J. Light, white-gold surfaces are highlighted with hints of green-gold. Light abrasions are present, but the strike is unusually well-impressed at the center, with indistinctness only present on the highest curl. A single die marriage was used to produce 19,460 quarter eagles. This issue is very rare in Mint State, with only a handful of examples known, so Choice AU examples such as the present offering are perfect for the quality-conscious specialist.(Registry values: P2)
