Description

1797 B-3, BB-71 Dollar, VF25
10x6 Stars, Large Letters

1797 $1 10x6 Stars, Large Letters, B-3, BB-71, R.2, VF25 PCGS. Bowers Die State III. Original, golden-gray toning blankets both sides and deepens slightly to blue-gray at the borders of this pleasing, midgrade 1797 dollar. BB-71 employs a 10 x 6 obverse star arrangement, unique in the Bust dollar series, and a curious relic of the Mint's ongoing quest to standardize the required design elements on federal coinage. This well-circulated example shows a few Mint-made adjustment marks that run horizontally across Liberty's neck. Marks and abrasions are otherwise microscopic, with faint traces of golden luster in protected areas. The eye appeal is excellent.
