Description

1872 Three Dollar, MS61
Low Mintage and Scarce

1872 $3 MS61 NGC. The 1872 issue produced just 2,000 pieces, and as one might expect it is particularly difficult to locate Mint State examples. This coin has eye-catching semiprooflike fields of vibrant orange-gold that exude reflectivity and blend beautifully with the lustrous lilac frost of the protected areas. The obverse is a bit weakly defined, and myriad abrasions account for the grade, but none merit specific mention. Census: 16 in 61, 28 finer (4/25).
