Description

1878 Twenty Cent, PR63
Colorfully Toned, Deep Mirrors

1878 20C PR63 PCGS. BF-1, R.3. Dappled blue, vermillion, and gold toning greets the eye on this Select 1878 proof double dime. The twenty cent denomination came to a merciful end with this proof-only issue. The twenty cent pieces were never embraced by the public, while the coin's similarity to the quarter dollar in size and appearance caused considerable confusion. Still, the short-yet-challenging series is much more appreciated by today's collectors. This well-struck, colorful proof represents a fitting finale to a well-formed collection. Only 600 proofs were struck.(Registry values: N2998)
