Description

1843 Quarter, Elusive MS65
One Certified Finer, Ex: Gardner

1843 25C MS65 PCGS. Briggs 1-B. The 1843 Seated quarter, struck to the extent of 645,000 coins, is available in lower grades but seldom seen in Mint State and extremely elusive in Gem condition. Certified in an old green-label holder, this Gem PCGS example shows mostly rose and bluish patina with glints of iridescent color near the rims on each side. Frosty luster complements a paucity of mentionable marks. One of two graded at this level by PCGS with none finer; NGC shows three MS65 with one MS66 finer (5/16).
Ex: Doug Noblet Collection (Bowers and Merena, 8/2001), lot 131; Eugene H. Gardner Collection, Part III (Heritage, 5/2015), lot 98333.(Registry values: P3)
