Description

1881-O Silver Dollar, MS66
Vivid Multicolor Obverse Toning

1881-O $1 MS66 PCGS. The reverse is brilliant except for a blush of olive-gray patina concentrated at the upper third of the coin, while the obverse sheds the more-sedate demeanor with a riotous display of color. Vivid lemon-gold, tangerine-orange, violet, azure-blue, pink, and amazonite green shades evoke visions of rainbow toning on steroids. The vibrant coloration resonates with bright mint luster. This coin was once housed in an NGC holder, so it is important to note that both grading services have accepted the originality of the toning. A sharp O-Mint strike and the lack of any significant marks confirm the Premium Gem technical grade, which is unsurpassed at either service. PCGS population: 36 in 66 (3 in 66+), 0 finer (1/17).(Registry values: P4, N4719)
