Description

1833 Half Dollar, O-102', MS64+
Early Die State Example

1833 50C O-102', R.1, MS64+ PCGS. This early die state coin shows the diagnostic die line from the 0 in 50C. to the rim. This die line is no longer present on later stages of this die pair's usage. Visible recutting on star 1 confirms the early state of the dies. Both sides of this piece show intense luster shining through deep lavender-gray, olive, and gold toning. No distracting abrasions are present. The horizontal shield lines lack full definition, but the remainder of the devices are well-struck. Well-deserving of the PCGS Plus designation, this borderline Gem piece ranks in the Condition Census for the O-102' variety based on the listed examples in Steve Herrman's Spring, 2016 census.
