Colorfully Toned and Razor-Sharp

1860 50C PR66 PCGS. Type Two Reverse. Apricot-orange, purple-pink, and a ring of electric-blue color visit each side of this attractive Premium Gem proof. The strike is razor-sharp, and the fields are deeply mirrored beneath the toning. The Guide Book reports a mintage of 1,000 proofs in 1860, but a substantial quantity of unsold coins were later melted. Survivors are rarely seen this fine. Population: 12 in 66 (2 in 66+), 1 finer (6/16).
