Description
1942-D Washington Quarter, Toned MS68
Tied for the Finest Certified
A Remarkable Registry Coin
1942-D 25C MS68 PCGS Secure. The finest 1942-D quarter
dollars certified include three MS68s at PCGS and two at NGC (one
of which is Star-designated) (4/18). The NGC coins account for
nearly all of the auction appearances of a 1942-D in this grade.
This is the first PCGS-graded example that we have handled. The
obverse has distinctive gold, violet, and russet toning on the
right side and is brilliant on the left. The reverse shows similar
color around the border, with a champagne-tinted interior. This
sharp, satiny coin shows no bothersome abrasions. PCGS Registry Set
collectors should closely consider this coin, as it is finer than
the piece in the current highest-rated Registry Set
(4/18).(Registry values: N991)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2453, PCGS# 5818, Greysheet# 5663)
