Description

1901 Dollar, Key MS63
Rarely Found Finer

1901 $1 MS63 NGC. The Morgan dollar series has been and continues to be one of the most popular series in American coinage. Collectors can assemble a variety of sets, and most issues are widely available in Mint State, if only lower grades. P-mint Morgans tend to be among the most collectible issues in the series, but that general rule fails to apply to the 1901, a well-known condition rarity. The popularity of the series places added pressure on the limited number of high-grade 1901 representatives. Select examples are very scarce, and the rarity of near-Gems prevents most specialists from even considering adding an example to their collections.

The obverse of this MS63 dollar is gray-gold, while the reverse is mostly brilliant. Well-struck for the date with the usually seen central incompleteness. Scattered marks are in line with the grade, and a tiny rim nick occurs between RI in PLURIBUS. NGC has certified only 23 finer examples (6/16).(Registry values: P9, N4719)
