Description

1884 Morgan Dollar, PR66+ Cameo
Delightful Original Toning
Rarely Seen This Fine

1884 $1 PR66+ Cameo PCGS. CAC. Trade dollar proof coinage officially ceased in 1883, making the Morgan dollar the only issue available to collectors in 1884. This issue is not unusually scarce in the absolute sense, but Cameo examples are. Typically, contrasted 1884 proofs grade below the Gem level, and high-end coins such as the present piece are rarities.

A loupe showcases clean fields and razor-sharp, frosty devices. Much of each side is cast in warm champagne-gold toning in a woodgrain patterns, but tinges of sky-blue, lavender, and mint-green appear around the peripheries. Strong field-motif contrast emerges from beneath the patina on each side. Population: 10 in 66 (3 in 66+) Cameo, 3 finer. CAC: 6 in 66, 1 finer (5/16).(Registry values: N4719)
