Description
1838-D Classic Half Eagle
Important Debut D-Mint Issue
1838-D $5 PCGS Genuine. McCloskey 1-A, R.3. The PCGS number
ending in .92 suggests Cleaning as the reason, or perhaps one of
the reasons, that PCGS deemed this coin not gradable. In our
opinion, this coin has the details of an AU specimen that has been
cleaned and has light obverse damage in the form of scattered tiny
hits. Detail is sharp, and the orange-gold coloration is pleasing.
The sought-after first-year Dahlonega issue, a key date in the
Classic Head series.
Note for clients in the European Union: This lot is considered by the European Union to be “investment gold”. We believe that it meets the criteria established in Article 344(1), point (2) of Council Directive 2006/112/EC and thus should be exempt from import VAT regardless of the selling price. Any questions or concerns about VAT should be addressed to your accountant or local tax authority.
