Description

1851-D Gold Dollar, MS62
Mint State Dahlonega Type Coin

1851-D G$1 MS62 NGC. Variety 3-E. The late die state variant with a heavy die crack extending from the rim at I in AMERICA through the second 1 in the date. The 1851-D is among the more plentiful gold dollar issues from the Dahlonega Mint, but Mint State examples are nonetheless elusive. This MS62 piece displays lightly abraded yellow-gold surfaces with clash marks in the fields and slight strike weakness in the centers. The look is very typical of D-mint gold from this period. Census: 22 in 62, 10 finer (5/16).(Registry values: N4719)
