Description

1796 V-1, LM-1, Half Dime, Choice AU
Popular LIKERTY Variety

1796 H10C LIKERTY, V-1, LM-1, R.3, AU55 NGC. The defective B in LIBERTY is the source of the hobby nickname for V-1. The Y is repunched, and the B is widely spaced from its neighbor letters. On the reverse, ICA and NI are also spaced too widely. Such foibles from the early U.S. Mint contribute to the interest that its coins command from modern collectors. This lightly circulated representative has a golden-brown and lavender-gray obverse. The reverse is principally cobalt-blue. The surfaces are pleasing despite a single thin field mark near star 12.
