Description

1871 Double Eagle, AU58
Difficult to Locate in Higher Grades

1871 $20 AU58 NGC. Near-Mint condition is the highest grade for which the 1871 remains collectible, although coins are scarce at that level. A trace of frost graces characteristically defined devices for a Type Two twenty, while the fields show a modest degree of reflectivity. This yellow-gold Philadelphia double eagle is appealing despite the presence of scattered abrasions. NGC has seen 13 finer submissions (6/18).(Registry values: P6)
