Description

1853-O Gold Dollar, MS65
Conditionally Rare, Few Known Finer

1853-O G$1 MS65 NGC. Variety 1. Bold die lines above IT in UNITED and a high date confirm the attribution. With 290,000 pieces struck, this is the most collectible of the six New Orleans gold dollar issues. It becomes scarce only at the MS64 grade level, while comparable Gems are conditionally rare. Shades of yellow-gold vary from light to dark over well-preserved surfaces. Strike definition is complete, and mint luster is wonderfully vibrant. Census: 9 in 65, 2 finer (9/18).(Registry values: N4719)
