Description

Single Finest PCGS Certified Business Strike 1883 Three Cent Nickel

1883 3CN MS67 PCGS. Pastel apricot and powder-blue hues enrich this delightful razor-sharp example. The cartwheel luster is pronounced. Except for a brief resurgence of the denomination in 1881, business strike production of Three Cent Nickels was reduced to token numbers after 1876. The 1883 continues the trend of declining mintages, since just 4,000 commercial strikes were coined, fewer than the 6,609 proofs struck for collectors of the day. Not surprisingly, the 1883 is rare in all Mint State grades. As of (1/05), just 21 pieces are certified by PCGS in Uncirculated condition, and only one piece, the present Superb Gem, achieves the MS67 level.
