Description

Finest Certified Business Strike 1888 Three Cent Nickel

1888 3CN MS68 PCGS. The penultimate date in the Three Cent Nickels series was another low mintage year for business strikes. Just 36,501 pieces were issued, and since collectors of the day favored proofs, business strikes were saved mostly by chance. Mint State survivors are scarce, but can obtained as high as MS67 given sufficient patience. However, as of (1/05), only one dedicated collector can acquire this issue in MS68, since no other pieces have been certified as such by either NGC or PCGS. This remarkable Superb Gem exhibits potent luster and essentially immaculate surfaces. Medium and consistent variegated lilac and olive hues further ensures the originality.
