Description

1860 Seated Dollar, PR64
Popular Antebellum Proof Issue, CAC

1860 $1 PR64 NGC. CAC. OC-P1, R.2. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/a. First use of the die marriage was to strike 1,330 proofs. Later, the dies were used to strike circulation strikes, so there are few pick-up points to differentiate proofs from prooflike coins struck for circulation. Flashy mirrors set against well-frosted devices plus an extremely sharp strike help confirm this piece is a proof, as do a few Mint-related lint marks on Liberty's portrait. Faint-gold patina deepens slightly at the borders, with occasional small bluish accents that add to the eye appeal. CAC endorsed. Census: 41 in 64 (1 in 64 ), 25 finer. CAC: 11 in 64, 11 finer (3/19).
