1921 'Zerbe Proof,' Specimen Details
Interesting Special Issue

1921 $1 Zerbe Special Strike -- Questionable Surfaces -- CACG Details, Specimen. VAM-1AG. Mirroring is present on this 1921 "Zerbe Proof" dollar, with some disturbances at the profile the likely culprit of CACG's Questionable Surfaces determination. This interesting issue, produced after the official discontinuation of proof coins in 1916, was allegedly created to make up for the late release of Peace Dollars. Zerbe promoted the new design in anticipation of a 1921 release, although the first Peace dollars did not enter circulation until January 3, 1922.
