Description
1892-S Half Dollar, MS66
Prohibitively Rare Finer
Ex: Friend, Gardner
1892-S 50C MS66 PCGS. CAC. Ex: Friend. The San Francisco
Mint struck more than 1 million half dollars of the new Barber
design in 1892, but few survive in Gem condition and finer pieces
are exceedingly rare. This specimen represents a rare opportunity
for the patient Barber half dollar specialist. The design elements
boast exceptional sharpness overall, with notable definition seen
on the eagle's talons and left shoulder. Softly frosted mint luster
illuminates smooth, light golden patina with pale amber-gray
accents over each side. Close examination beneath a lens is needed
to detect any signs of disturbance on the surfaces. Population: 3
in 66 (1 in 66+), 1 finer (11/15). This piece is one of three in
this grade with CAC approval.Ex: Finest Known, Inc.; Dale Friend #2 All-Time PCGS Registry Set of Barber Half Dollars (Heritage, 1/2009), lot 3868; FUN Signature (Heritage, 7/2009), lot 658; Eugene H. Gardner Collection (Heritage, 6/2014), lot 30550.(Registry values: N4719)
