1925 Norse American Centennial Medal, MS65
Large Format Nickel Strike
1925 Medal Norse Medal, Large Format, Nickel, MS65 NGC. NGC
identifies the composition of this example as nickel, perhaps a
surprising choice as bronze was easier to manipulate within the
Mint. This example is thought to be a trial piece prior to the
December 1925 production of the large format bronze medals.
However, it is possibly a special strike for an unknown
presentation. Regardless, this piece on an octagonal blank, and
another offered in the present selection on an oversized blank, are
perhaps the only known examples struck in nickel. Hints of gold
toning appear on the antique-gray surfaces of this attractive large
