1898-O Quarter, MS66
Underrated Condition Rarity

1898-O 25C MS66 PCGS. CAC. The 1898-O quarter is often overlooked in discussions of scarce Barber issues, though it is actually a distinctly elusive date in Mint State, and is a significant condition rarity above the Gem grade level. The issue circulated extensively in the South, and a number of lower-grade circulated pieces are known. High-end Mint State examples remain curiously underappreciated. This Premium Gem representative exhibits shimmering, frosty luster beneath a veil of light golden patina. Liberty's cheek reveals a few faint, grade-consistent grazes, though the preservation is otherwise perfect. Some striking deficiency is seen on some of the obverse stars and on the eagle's talons, as is typical of this New Orleans issue. Both sides show prominent clash marks in the fields. Population: 7 in 66, 2 finer (11/14).(Registry values: N7079)
