Description

1950 Franklin Half, PR66 Ultra Cameo
Top Series Rarity in Ultra Cameo

1950 50C PR66 Ultra Cameo NGC. A rare Ultra Cameo example of the debut Franklin half dollar proof. This is a coin that is almost essential for a high-ranking Registry Set, as there are only 14 dates in the proof series, and high-grade Ultra/Deep Cameos are universally the most difficult examples to acquire. In fact, the 1950 is the rarest proof Franklin in Ultra/Deep Cameo in series, with the sole exception of the 1956 Type One, which is not required for a standard date set. Across all grades, NGC and PCGS combined have seen only 31 Ultra/Deep Cameo 1950 proofs. The present example displays stark white-on-black contrast with no toning, and the mirrored fields glimmer like liquid beneath a light. The strike is full, and the preservation is outstanding. Census: 3 in 66 Ultra Cameo (1 in 66+), 2 finer (6/16).(Registry values: N10218)
