Well Defined and Problem-Free
1856-C $5 AU50 PCGS. Variety 1. A well defined yellow-gold
representative. Both sides display a smattering of small marks, but
none are individually consequential. Mintages of Charlotte gold
coins declined steadily after 1852, since West Coast bullion was
increasingly struck at San Francisco rather than shipped to the
Eastern seaboard. Population: 20 in 50, 38 finer (1/15).Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 5/2008), lot 3256, which realized $2,990.
