Description

1934-S Peace Dollar, MS66
Overall Key to the Peace Dollar Series
In the Finest Obtainable Condition

1934-S $1 MS66 PCGS Secure. CAC. Ex: MBJ. The 1934-S Peace dollar is, regardless of condition, the rarest issue in the series overall, in any grade. The present Premium Gem thus has a dual distinction of being among the "finest of the rarest," one of only 28 such submitted to PCGS (NGC adds 14 more to the total). The finest PCGS Registry Sets cannot hope to one day include a finer 1934-S Peace dollar, unless and until the unlikely event occurs that PCGS grades an MS66+ or MS67 example.

This piece displays gorgeous, frosty luster on surfaces that show no more than a trace of gold patina amid the silver-white intensity. The minimal color shows off the bold strike and a noticeable absence of abrasions to maximum effect. This piece should be hotly contested when it crosses the auction block. Only once before have we offered an MS66 PCGS-CAC example of this issue; in our Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2011), lot 5311, an example in an old green-label holder that brought $34,500.
