Description

1854 Arrows Half Dollar, MS66
Tied for the Finest at PCGS

1854 50C Arrows, WB-101, MS66 PCGS. CAC. The Wiley-Bugert reference identifies a single die marriage as WB-101, although many other varieties exist (pending Bill Bugert's publication of a second Philadelphia Mint volume in his ongoing series detailing the Seated Liberty half dollar varieties).

This example lacks the usual "Longacre outlines" to the peripheral devices. Delicate clash marks are noted at Liberty's left (right facing) arm, on the reverse between most of the vertical shield stripes, and in the fields. The obverse is lightly cracked between stars 11 and 12, from the border to Liberty's foot and the right base of the rock, and from the left arrowhead through the left base of the rock. There are no reverse die cracks.

An impressive Premium Gem, housed in a green-label PCGS holder, this half dollar exhibits frosty silver luster and mostly brilliant ivory surfaces, enhanced with delicate peripheral gold and pale blue toning. The strike and surfaces of this eye-appealing Arrows half dollar are well above-average. Population: 8 in 66, 0 finer. CAC: 2 in 66, 0 finer (2/18).
