Description

1874 Gold Dollar, PR62 Cameo
Extremely Rare JD-2 Variety

1874 G$1 JD-2, R.8, PR62 Cameo PCGS. CAC. Wheat-gold surfaces are moderately abraded and significantly mirrored. Striking weakness is limited to the highest points of the design. Despite the circulation strike mintage of 198,800 - the highest of the post-Civil War era - the official proof mintage of 20 is tied for the lowest of the series. However, the presence of three die marriages opens the possibility of chicanery from Snowden, Pollock, and Linderman, the originators of most Mint shenanigans of this time.
