Description
1856 Flying Eagle Cent, Snow-3
VF Sharpness
1856 1C -- Reverse Damage -- NGC Details. Proof, VF Details.
Snow-3. A walnut-brown example of the historically significant
1856 Flying Eagle cent, the first date of the small cent
denomination. Pieces from Snow-3 dies were struck in 1856 to
demonstrate the convenient diameter relative to the cumbersome
large cent. A majority of the issue are Snow-9 restrikes from later
in the decade after collector demand soared. The present Snow-3
specimen made its way into commerce and received a number of tiny
marks near the denomination and right wreath end.
