Description

1857 Flying Eagle Cent
Deeply Toned Gem Proof

1857 1C PR65 NGC. Though the 1856 Flying Eagle cent is more famous than its 1857 and 1858 proof successors, the latter two dates are actually rarer in proof format than the 1856. For the 1857, NGC has certified a mere 37 proofs in all grades, since the date preceded the 1858 advent of proof set sales to the general public. The present fully struck Gem offers flashy fields and deep cobalt-blue, lavender, and orange-gold toning. Census: 7 in 65, 2 in 65 Cameo, none finer (4/13).
