Description

1879-CC VAM-3 Dollar, MS64
Capped Die, A Top 100 Variety

1879-CC $1 Capped Die, VAM-3, MS64 NGC. A Top 100 Variety. The so-called Large CC Over Small CC reverse is identified by the die chips around the mintmark, which are thought, in part, to have been caused by "attempts to obliterate the smaller underlying mint mark from the die with engraving tools," according to VAMWorld.com.

This near-Gem Uncirculated example is fully brilliant and frosted with swirling luster. A bold strike defines each side with the minor exception of the few hair strands directly over Liberty's ear. Seldom seen better than this and worth a strong bid.
