Description

1854 Cent Pattern in Bronze
Judd-161, PR63 Brown

1854 P1C One Cent, Judd-161, Pollock-187, R.4, PR63 Brown PCGS. CAC (Gold Sticker). The obverse and reverse designs are similar to the adopted Braided Hair designs, but without stars on the obverse and struck on a smaller-sized planchet. These popular patterns are known in copper, bronze, and oroide. This example is struck in bronze and has a plain edge. The surfaces are still nicely reflective through the greenish-tinged brown patina that covers each side. Slight porosity is present in the fields but there are remarkably few contact marks, undoubtedly explaining the coveted CAC gold sticker.
