1880 Gold Dollar, MS67 Prooflike
Extraordinary Preservation
1880 G$1 MS67 Prooflike NGC. CAC. The low mintage of 1,600
business strikes is as attractive to collectors today as it was to
hoarders in the late 19th century. Because of the low mintage,
survivors tend almost uniformly to have prooflike fields. The
reflectivity is so pronounced on this piece that it was designated
as Prooflike on the insert. This piece is extraordinary in other
ways as well. The strike is complete throughout, and there are no
obvious abrasions. The devices are lightly frosted, giving the
piece a moderate cameo appearance. Census: 7 in 67 Prooflike, 1
finer (5/11).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25DJ, PCGS# 77581)
