Description
Sharp 1858 Half Dime, PR66
1858 H10C PR66 NGC. Walter Breen estimates in his 1989 Proof Encyclopedia that three to four dozen proof half dimes of 1858 are extant. NGC and PCGS have certified considerably more, though many are undoubtedly resubmissions or crossovers. Deep cobalt-blue and violet patina covers this Premium Gem specimen, and a well executed strike leaves excellent definition on the design elements. Nicely preserved surfaces reveal a degree of field-motif contrast. Census: 13 in 66, 1 finer (6/08).(Registry values: P5)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 235N, PCGS# 4437, Greysheet# 3905)
