Description
1842-C Half Eagle, Sharp XF45
Large Date Variant
1842-C $5 Large Date XF45 PCGS. Variety 1. The 1842-C half
eagle is scarce, and the small population is split between two
distinct varieties: Large Date and Small Date. This piece
represents the more available Large Date variant, which survives to
the extent of 110-140 pieces, per Doug Winter. The strike is sharp,
and the rich orange-gold surfaces show expected light chatter
without distracting abrasions. Very little wear is present. Housed
in a green label holder. From The Ohio Valley Collection.(Registry values: P5)
