Description

1872 Dollar, Toned PR65
Brightly Reflective With Motto Issue

1872 $1 PR65 NGC. A generous mintage of 950 proof Seated Liberty dollars was coined in 1872, but the survival rate for proofs of this era was low compared to the earlier Civil War issues. Most examples were sold as part of proof sets, but some specimens undoubtedly went unsold, and were melted. Examples in Gem condition are very scarce today. The present coin displays razor-sharp definition on the design elements, and brightly reflective mirrored fields. The central devices gleam with silver highlights, while the fields are graced by iridescent shades of golden-brown and violet patina. Electric-blue, crimson, and lavender line the margins. Overall eye appeal is extraordinary. Census: 15 in 65, 8 finer (5/14).
