Description

1951-S Lincoln Cent, MS68 Red
First Coin in This Grade at Auction
Tied for Finest Known

1951-S 1C MS68 Red PCGS. Ex: Whispering Pines. Although PCGS and NGC list a total of nine 1951-S Lincoln cents in MS68 Red (two at PCGS, seven at NGC), none of these pieces has yet appeared at auction. Thus, the Whispering Pines example is introducing what will be many collectors' first opportunity to acquire a top-tier example of this late-series San Francisco issue. The coin yields uniform pumpkin-orange luster without blemish or abrasion. A slight bit of softness on the top of the O in ONE is the only mentionable strike weakness. Population: 2 in 68 Red, 0 finer (11/24).(Registry values: N1793)
