Description

1909 Nickel, PR68 Cameo
Delicate Pastel Toning

1909 5C PR68 Cameo NGC. The Mint struck 4,763 proof nickels in 1909. The introduction of the Lincoln cent resulted in greater proof set sales and thus higher proof mintages. A number of examples are certified as Cameos, but striking quality is sometimes lacking. This delightful specimen exhibits a full proof strike, noticeable field-device contrast, and seemingly flawless surfaces. Wisps of ice-blue, green-gold, and lavender-orange toning grace each side, with the latter colors most prevalent on the reverse. Census: 9 in 68 Cameo (1 in 68+, 2 in 68 ), 0 finer (3/18).
Ex: Beverly Hills Signature (Heritage, 11/2014), lot 3622; Central States Signature (Heritage, 4/2015), lot 3578.
