Description

1867 10C MS64 NGC. F-103, R.5. This unusual variety shows repunching on the digits in the date. Both sides had previously been used to produce proofs, but on this piece heavy die polishing has eliminated the (usually) diagnostic diagonal die scratch from the bow knot to the left leaf in the wreath. As expected, the fields are bright and semiprooflike, but do show die clashing. The russet-rose toning is surrounded by blue color at the rims. Only 6,000 business strikes were produced. Census: 17 in 64, 14 finer (7/19).
