Description
1841 Liberty Half Eagle, MS65+
Registry Grade Example
1841 $5 MS65+ NGC. From a meager business-strike mintage of
15,833 pieces, the 1841 Liberty half eagle is a scarce issue in all
grades. Walter Breen reported the rumor of a small hoard that
surfaced in 1953, which might explain the survival of a few
outstanding examples, like the present coin. This Plus-graded Gem
is among the finest certified examples at either of the leading
grading services, as NGC has graded only two coins in MS65, this
one in 65+ and another in 65★ , with none finer, while PCGS has
certified no examples finer than MS64 (10/21). Razor-sharp
definition is evident on all design elements of this remarkable
specimen and the virtually flawless orange-gold surfaces radiate
satiny mint luster from both sides. Eye appeal is
terrific.(Registry values: P6)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25SN, PCGS# 8202, Greysheet# 8885)
