Description

1879 Morgan Dollar in Copper
Judd-1612, PR63 Brown

1879 $1 Morgan Dollar, Judd-1612, Pollock-1808, Low R.7, PR63 Brown PCGS. This pattern Morgan dollar has the adopted obverse with a reverse that displays a broad and imposing "shield type" eagle with spread wings. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. The eagle on the reverse of this pattern was proposed to replace the adopted eagle, that some termed "scrawny." The surfaces are uniformly lackluster from the depth of the brown patina, and a deeper brown stain is noted on the right side of the obverse. Sharply struck, the surfaces show no overt signs of contact.
