Description
1968 No S Dime, PR68
Very Rare Mint Error
1968 10C No S, FS-501, PR68 PCGS. 1968 witnessed the
resumption of proof coinage. No such sets had been issued since
1964, and demand was tremendous. More than 3 million sets were
sold, and each coin in that set was supposed to bear the San
Francisco mintmark. On the dime, the mintmark had been moved from
the lower central reverse to the lower right obverse. Due to the
small size of the coin, or the change in mintmark location, a
working obverse proof dime die never had a mintmark punched in. The
mistake was presumably caught quickly, given that only a few dozen
examples are known today. This is a prominently mirrored and
unabraded specimen with occasional traces of wheat-gold toning.
